Graisley Old Hall Ghost Hunt
Uncover the chilling secrets of the House that Cries at Graisley Old Hall in Wolverhampton with our ghost hunting events!
Join Paranormal Eye UK for a ghost hunt at Graisley Hall, an old former hall that gained its name as the "house that cries" in the 1980s by a Midlands newspaper due to strange pools of water that would appear with no logical explanation. The haunted house has been the site of ghostly activity for many years, including whispers, moans, and groans. Guests have reported seeing the apparition of a boy by the fireplace in the main sitting room and have heard heavy footsteps and doors banging or rattling. The owners who reside on the opposite end of the hall have also experienced poltergeist activity. If you're up for a unique and thrilling experience, join the team for this ghost-hunting night. Just be aware that this old house is not for the easily scared, as it can be rife with ghostly goings-on, including turning door handles and moving doors by unforeseen hands. If You are looking for that ambiance of a ghost hunt near you, The House that cries can be a very daunting location after dark.
Join us on a Journey into the spooky happenings after the lights go out.
History Of The House That Cries
Graisley Old Hall is believed to have been built in 1485, though signs of a much earlier building have been discovered. During road construction, the remains of a moat were found surrounding the property. This is thought to have been there to prevent cattle thieves.
16th Century records show that the first owner of Graiseley Old Hall was Nicholas Rydley, a merchant of the staple of Calais. The Hall remained within his family until the middle of the 17th Century when Walter Rotten was forced to sell the property to William Norman to pay off gambling debts.
During the Queen Anne period, the exterior timberwork of the Hall was replaced with brick. An example of the original Wattle and Daub structuring can be viewed in the house’s Entrance Hall. Also, sections of medieval fresco paintings can be seen on the actual wall timbers of the home.
Towards the end of the 19th Century, Moses Ironmonger occupied the hall, a former Mayor of the Borough and a friend of Alexander Graham Bell. Ironmonger installed the first public telephone line used in the district.
In 1930 Graisley Old Hall was purchased by the Royal Wolverhampton School as an administration site. It was discovered in 1957 that this old Hall was not an officially listed building. Wolverhampton M.P. Enoch Powell brought the matter to the attention of the local Government, and as a result, Graisley Old Hall was given Grade II listed status.
