The Hauntings Of Elizabethan House After Dark!
This historically significant merchant's house, constructed circa 1596 by Benjamin Cowper, is situated along the quayside in Great Yarmouth. The property is notable for its association with Oliver Cromwell, who frequently visited his friend John Carter, a prominent merchant in Yarmouth, following his acquisition of the residence from Cowper in 1635.
During daylight hours, the Elizabethan house presents a captivating and elegant appearance; however, it assumes a markedly different ambiance at night. Ghost hunts conducted at this location are not suited for the faint-hearted, as numerous individuals have reported encounters with ghostly apparitions traversing the grand staircase. The Old Kitchen area is particularly reputed to be haunted by the spirit of a young boy known for his erratic behavior.
Personnel at the site have reported objects being relocated and drawers found ajar despite being previously closed. Auditory phenomena such as footsteps emanating from the main hallway and sudden temperature drops have also been documented. The Drawing Room possesses a pronounced sensation of being observed, which many attribute to the presence of a male spirit. The main bedroom is often described as unsettling, with accounts of poltergeist activity. Numerous visitors have reported hearing indistinct murmurs or the sound of a male voice in the absence of any visible occupants in the room.
Over its extensive history, the Elizabethan house has been the site of many fatalities. The Paranormal Eye team extends an invitation to individuals seeking to spend a night in this reputedly haunted house. Those who dare to participate may inquire what, if anything, they may encounter. Are you prepared to confront your fears and venture alone into one of the many haunted rooms?
History Of Elizabethan House
The Elizabeth House Museum is a historic 16th-century house located on Great Yarmouth's Quayside. It showcases Elizabethan domestic life. Built around 1596 by wealthy merchant Benjamin Cowper, it underwent expansions in 1603 and 1610, reflecting Cowper's growing wealth.
John Carter, a local merchant and town bailiff, purchased the house in 1635. It became a gathering place for Parliamentarians before the Civil War, notably hosting a meeting in 1648 regarding King Charles I's fate. Following John Carter's death in 1667, the house passed to his sons, John and Nathaniel, who lived there until their deaths in the early 18th century.
In 1722, the house was divided into two buildings. Over the years, it changed hands multiple times, including ownership by Thomas Adkin in the 1750s and subsequent owners like Samuel Tover and John Ives. The Aldred family acquired the house in 1870, with Samuel Aldred making significant changes. After passing through the family, it was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1943 after Mary Aldred's death.
