The History of The Stag
There is very little known history to this location which is what makes it more intriguing!
Dating back to the 16th Century.
The Stag is a historic coach house that has stood for over 500 years. It was once the court house and town prison of Stratford-upon-Avon, where only the notorious criminals were held. Despite its dark past, the hotel has been beautifully refurbished and now offers modern comforts and traditional charm. Come and experience the intriguing history of The Stag for yourself.

We recommend that you wear warm clothing, as this location can become very cold after dark, even during the summer months.

Experience an evening inside a 16th century building that has served as a court house, jail, and coaching inn. This historical site is said to be haunted by a numerous spirits and has witnessed many ghostly happenings over the years. Join us for a ghost hunt and seance in the former courtroom, vigils in the attic rooms, and a chance to make contact with spirits in the main bar area after closing.

The attic rooms, although modernised, exude a palpable sense of sorrow, and we believe that a young lady with a compelling story resides here. Staff s have reported unexplained banging from within this area. The original courthouse/chapel after dark will undoubtedly send shivers down your spine.
